Do you like the grass/fire/water starter type pattern?

Almost all starter Pokémon in the series have been grass/fire/water types. They occasionally have secondary types, though not all do. This type triangle is usually done because they're simpler types that more easily explain the type chart to players, especially if they are brand new to the series.

Do you like the grass/fire/water pattern or would you want to see starter Pokémon in the future have a different set of types?

I'm fine with the grass/fire/water pattern, it's the secondary typings I have issues with. I often do think that they could stand to do a more interesting triangle - Ice/Fire/Dragon would be verrrrry interesting - but it's a series staple and I'm totally fine with it.

I'm tired of it honestly. Wouldn't mind seeing something different, although it's obviously not gonna happen.

I like when rom hacks and fan games break this formula, of course provided that the starters they offer are properly balanced and make sense, and it's not something like: Riolu, Eevee or Larvesta...

It's fine to me. It did help a lot back when I had just started playing Pokémon, so I don't mind it staying.

I do, however, agree with Dawn on the matter of secondary typings. It was disappointing to see that the Gen 8 starters didn't have any secondary typings upon reaching their final forms despite their themes lending themselves fully to it, so I'd like that to be rectified in Gen IX. X/Y, S/M and PLA all did that very well already.

I quite like the grass/fire/water pattern with starters. It provides a nice way to introduce new players to type matchups. Plus, a lot of them are surprisingly good.

If ONLY there wasn't that ONE starter that was clearly engineered to be the fan favorite once EVERY SINGLE GENERATION.

If anything, I'd say that because it's a very easy type triangle to understand it shouldn't be the starter set.

Most people can figure out grass > water > fire > grass by themselves, it's stuff like fairy > fighting > steel > fairy or ice > ground > steel > ice that's esoteric enough that people need some help if they're new to the franchise.

That said, I don't mind the starter triangle as it is and would rather see changes in other areas. It's not my favorite piece of design in the series but it's not really something that bothers me at a personal level.

I have no reason to oppose this starter pattern. I don't think it needs to change either because, as Shooting Star said, Grass, Fire, and Water are great ways to understand the basics of type matchups.

It's never going away, so I'm completely fine with it at this point. This is a tradition that Pokemon will never veer away from. If they haven't by now, they never will, so it is what it is.

I don't really have a problem with it, and I don't see them ever doing anything different. I like in recent generations that each starter gets a secondary typing, so it shakes up the formula a little bit. I do find it weird that gen 8 didn't keep with this new trend, but at the same time, I don't know what secondary type to give to the Galar starters. Fingers crossed that all 3 of the Paldea starters get secondary typings...

I wouldn't really like for them to change the starters' types to be honest, it's an effective triangle and it's easy to understand for newer players. Maybe changing water type for rock type would have a similar outcome, but it doesn't give me the same appeal, so I can't imagine changin all three

These are some combinations I would like to see for future starters

    Grass/Electric
    Fire/Poison
    Water/Flying

    Grass/Psychic
    Fire/Ground
    Water/Electric

    Grass/Flying
    Fire/Fairy
    Water/Poison

    Grass/Steel
    Fire/Normal
    Water/Ghost

    Grass/Bug
    Fire/Electric
    Water/Steel

    Grass/Fairy
    Fire/Bug
    Water/Psychic

    Grass/Normal
    Fire/Rock
    Water/Bug

Besides being an easy representation of the type match-ups, it's also because the starter types are easy to identify with the primary red, green and blue colors, which makes them visually more appealing to kids, and also more attractive for merchandise. Rock types are usually Brown or Gray, and other types aren't even strongly associated with a specific color.

Rock also wouldn't work as a starter type either because it resists Normal, so it would be too much advantage in the beginning of the game. It's a shame because Rock-Flying-Fighting and Rock-Fire-Steel are also perfect triangles, but it's never going to happen.

mostly indifference. it'd be nice if they were to change it up, but as already pointed out, that's unlikely to happen. but it's not a big deal to me either way.
