Do you like buying DLC?

I enjoy DLC as an extra bonus and not a requirement.

I don't want to feel like I'm going to miss important story elements or having elements of the base game taken away because I'm not giving extra money. When DLC is done correctly and I can enjoy more of something I loved, it's great. When it's done wrong it just feels gross.

Yes and no.

No: Passes on cosmetic and grind-reduction DLCs regularly. Has not been super impressed by DLCs of well-liked games, such as Pokemon. Hates to miss part of the experience, but...is it even going to be that worthwhile?

Yes: Cares more about DLC with mechanical changes. Names the Civilization 6 expansions for this. Added multiple new systems and optional game modes. Tweaked some existing things like diplomacy and districts too. Feels like a completely different game than the original. Enjoyed one of the Sims 3 DLCs too, for delving deeper into a certain age.

I generally don't mind paying for DLC if it adds a substantial amount to the game and is high quality; but I don't like when it feels like parts of the game were taken out to use for DLC rather then it being an expansion to an already complete experience. I also don't care at all for cosmetic stuff.

I don't mind non-cosmetic DLC that isn't microtransactions, but nowadays I'll wait until everything's out before I even so much as think about buying the game. Once that's done, I'll buy the base game and all the DLC when they go on sale later so I don't have to worry about my experience being incomplete, or have to worry about updates breaking my saves or wrecking my character build or whatever.

I actually haven't for most games I've played! Pokémon always yes, but for others it's rare now that I think about it. I guess most DLC doesn't hook me enough to purchase it. If I do get DLC, it's usually because it's bundled with the game lol. I've picked up some 'complete' editions like that a few times before.

Mostly if I'm interested. For the franchise this website is based on, well so far I have always bought the DLC.

But that was also included the only time I think I wasted money. Isle of abhorrence… Gen8's first wave of DLC was a disasterpiece in my opinion. I've complained about it so much that I prefer if you don't ask me anymore about it.

If the DLC is an expansion of the game (like a whole different area to explore, or playing as a different character in a different storyline) -- yes I'd buy it.

If it's cosmetic and just adds a bunch of stuff to my game, nah. I'm good.

(says the person who bought a bunch of sims packs and never touched them 🙃)

Depends on the content of the DLC and whether I think I'm getting my money's worth out if it.

I only bought the Sword/Shield DLC because I wanted the fancy party dresses that it unlocked. Playing through the DLC game scenarios was simply something I did out of obligation. Whether it was worth it or not is still up for debate, but my trainer character does look fashionable, so I did get something out of it.

Cosmetic DLC is only a consideration when I like the outfits included. 99% of the time, it's a no.

I did buy most of the DLC for Fire Emblem: Three Houses; not so much for Engage, since its extra story scenarios didn't seem like something I'd want to play through.

I'm all in for buying the state map DLC for American Truck Simulator, however. Each one gives me hundreds (if not thousands) of new roads to explore and the dev team goes to great effort to make each one as accurate as possible, even sending staff to tour each state beforehand as research. Plus I need to support them if I have any hope of them making it all the way to the East Coast, lol.

Typically no unless I feel like it'll be worth my money in terms of overall playtime + replayability of the content. If it's a game that I'm already in love with that gets new content like ffxiv or the souls series then it's usually an insta buy or pre-order even since I'm fairly certain I won't be disappointed and/or I know that if I don't grab it it's just putting off the inevitable. Most other games it's a hard sell even for content expansion, and an absolute no for anything cosmetic 99% of the time.

Expansion packs, missions or some other kind of meaningful additional content: Yes, I'll buy those and I don't mind buying them.
Cosmetic stuff or like with Ubisoft DLC to unlock markers on a map: Pass. Unless it's a really hecking dope costume that I actually want I'll generally pass on these sorts of DLC.
Horde mode / arena types of DLC: Depends. It's usually a pass, but sometimes I'll get them if there's a good reward.

Like buying it? No, spending money sucks.

Like having it? Yes, I always like having more content for the games I enjoy. The buying part is just an unfortunate gateway that must be passed through to get there.
