Do you believe in fortune telling and prediction?

No, I do not believe in such things. However, I do believe in carma. Because what goes around comes around. Eventually. The method of prection and fortune telling is that they ask you questions, you may nod in a answer. Which is like a intstict. They try and trigger your emotions by focusing on who you are and your weaknesses, who you sound like, and how you act like. Everyone is entitled of thier own opinion. That is mine.

They're just using your sillyness and stupidity to make you pay a huge sum of money so that they can "read" tarot cards or looking at dubious looking crystal balls and tell your "fortune". Which in fact are pure coincidence and whatnots.

Such things are often simply so vague that there's a good chance for them being true. As an example, I'm a Gemini, so let's look at today's horoscope for me.

An increased understanding of distant cultures as well as curiosity about the people who live there could spur you on to further learning about those places, Gemini. Friends or groups with which you're affiliated could be involved in some way. You're likely to channel a lot of energy into intellectual activities today and inspire others to do the same. Take a walk at some point during the day to clear your head.
Well, yeah.

There's no magic behind it; simply a smart way to put things that can be easily interpreted as significant. It kind of reminds me of the Forer Effect, a similar concept in personality tests.

I don't really believe in that. I had my fortune predicted a couple of times;
One said I will become successful, one said I'm going to die, another said I'm going to be lucky, etc.

Such things are often simply so vague that there's a good chance for them being true.

I agree with this ^

This kind of thing goes against my religious beliefs so no.

I don't believe you can tell the future, but my friend's father is an astrologer and without ever meeting someone he can somehow know a surprisingly accurate amount of info about them just from knowing their time and place of birth. I'm not saying I believe that our personalities are dictated by the position of the planets, but I'm at a loss as to how he does it. It's like a really good magic trick. That's how I look at palm reading and tarot cards and all that - as entertainment.

I think there are people out there that can read our fortunes and predict the future, but they've been drowned out by the flood of showmen that are only in the business to con us out of our money.

I don't believe, no. But on the other extreme, I don't disbelieve either. For all I know, there could be a few genuine practitioners out there, I just don't know. But I don't put much energy into pondering upon it. For the most part, I think fortune telling is a waste of time and often a scam.

Prophecies are the same to me. Could be true, could not be true, I don't believe or disbelieve because I don't know. But I'm leaning more towards disbelief for most of them.

I'm not so much sure that I believe in "fortune tellers," or whatever. However, I do believe in prediction. I've had dreams of things, and those things have actually happened. So...yeah.
Also, my older sister read my tarrot once, and everything the cards were saying to describe me fit perfectly. So, there's always that, and I doubt it was coincidental.

No. They simply use double negatives and descriptions that cover basically everyone.
As Steven Fry explained it:
Psychic 1: Is there a Wendy in your life?
Person 1: No.
Psychic 1: There will be very soon.

Psychic 2: Is there a Wendy in your life?
Person 2: Yes.
Psychic 2: See I thought so.

There is also certain descriptions of people that encompass what basically everyone thinks of themselves, though I can't remember any off the top of my head.
I sometimes read my horoscope, not because I believe in them but just for fun.

Ah, never. I never believed in such non-sense.
I just don't know why don't people have a rationalistic attitude and they blindly accept some people.

I never believe in this such things. Since there's no scientific basis or explanation in this. If there are then possibly, I would.

^ What this good man has just said
Spoiler:

As far as actually believing in them, I generally don't. But with all of that being said, sometimes getting your fortune told is fun. Even if it is so broadly worded that it's sure to be true, sometimes you just need that feeling you get from it when you personalize such a broad statement to yourself.

Sometimes you just need that 'good' fortune to emotionally pick you up out of the gutter or remind you to do something that you need to do in life anyways. A good number of horoscopes tend to tell you what you could be doing that day.

With all of that being said, I don't see any harm from fortune telling. It gives some people hope that they can't find elsewhere. It gives them a reason not to throw their hands up and say "I give up" on something.

Personally, I occasionally read the horoscopes, if only to entertain myself with the possibilities for the moment before I think, "LMAO, this is all BS."

I believe in Karma. I do not believe in fortune telling because the "fortunes" never come true. Horoscopes can sometimes be true.

Horoscopes can sometimes be true.

You can't really use that as a way of saying they are a genuine method of prediction. By that logic, me guessing your future is genuine as well because it could sometimes come true.

I'd like to fit Laplace's Demon into here somehow.

Crazy though it seems, I do think that there could be a few people who actually predict the future through the supernatural. If I'm wrong I'm wrong. The vast majority, at least, of psychics and such are just invoking the Forer Effect, as was mentioned.

I really don't believe in this...

But this one time, someone I'm very close with had their whole life predicted by someone... And it's really scary how everything they told them has come true... It's been very accurate.

But personally, everything people predict about me has never really come true.
