Do transferred Pokemon from old games continue to learn new moves in new games?

As question says. I'm sort of new to the series.

Do you have to get all your move sets in the respective games or can they carry on learning their moves when transferred to the new games?

I hope so because I want to start Pokemon X, and grinding for moves in Pokemon Blue (eshop version) is driving me insane. I know that these can't be transferred til pokemon sun and moon anyway but I want to rinse the game then forget about til sun and moon are out.

How does this work from XY to Omega and Alpha?

Many thanks, and apologies if this is a noob question!

    Much love!

If you trade a Pokemon from an older game to a newer game, they'll have the learnset of the newer game. So if you trade a Pokemon from X or Y to OR or AS, they'll learn the moves they get in ORAS.

    Thanks for the reply!

    So just to clarify:

    1) Any moves learnt from an old game are renamed or changed for equivalent moves for the new generatiion, and you won't be keeping the exact same moves in transition?

    2) If I transfer a pokemon who's learnt only 2 moves with 2 free slots, on transferring them to the new game, they can still learn two more moves (new moves of the new generation)?

So does it make it difference if I learn all the moves now on gen 1 or wait to learn moves after the transfer? I don't want to feel I'm missing out on anything...

    Thanks again!

The moves your Pokémon knows will stay the same, period. No move has ever been removed from one generation to another, so if your Pokémon knows, for instance, Tackle, before being transferred, it still will know Tackle after the transfer. Some of them will have slightly different names simply because prior to generation IV (X/Y/OR/AS), there used to be a 12-characters limit on move names, which doesn't exist anymore. You can see the list of renamed moves here: https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_modified_moves#Name_changes .

Yeah, they are pretty much treated as any other Pokémon of the generation where you transfer them. The only differences between a Pokémon captured in the game you're currently playing and a Pokémon transferred from a previous generation are:
    • Pokémon that weren't caught or bred in Generation 6 won't have a blue pentagon on their profiles, which will exclude them from official tournaments. You can breed such a Pokémon, and its descendants will have the blue pentagon.
    • The info on where the Pokémon was captured will display the name of the region instead of the exact location.

    That's it.

Thanks a lot for the info! I was putting pressure on myself to max out the 1st gen pokemon before moving on to X, I guess I don't have to now. I just got the weird idea that I'd have to learn all the moves before the transfer but looks like I can do it after the transfer.

    Cheers man.
