Did Agatha die?

A few days ago I was reading Indigo's League page on Bulbapedia. After the events of Gen I and Gen III, the Elite 4 changes, so in G/S/C/HG/SS there's 3 new members on this one.

In FR/LG we learned that Lorelei left the E4 for protecting her hometown from Team Rocket or whatever else, thus being replaced by Will, a psychic type pokémon master.

Bruno took Agatha's position as the third member and was replaced by Koga, a poison type pokémon master, formerly the gym leader of Fuchsia City Gym.

Finally, Lance became the Indigo League Pokémon Champion, since the former champion went on rigorous training to Mt. Silver; taking the fourth place Karen, a dark type pokémon master.

So, Lorelei left because she wanted to protect her hometown and Lance took the champion's spot, all good, but... What about Agatha?

She was well known for being the oldest member of the E4 and had a great battling spirit, claiming pokémon were ment to battle, so I don't think she went like Oak pursuing other interests... Could it be that she actually died? That may be the reason why her absence is never explained.

So what do you thing about this? It really bugs me and is a interesting way of seing things. Give you toughts about it!!

I don't think she died. There is no evidence to suggest that she did, so I like to assume she retired and is living happily alongside her Ghost Pokemon.

I do not sure about the games, but in the anime after the events of the 3rd generation before the Battle Frontier, she had become the gym leader in place of Giovanni, I do not think she died. I would say in the games she retired because of her age.

Even if she did die... it wouldn't be explicitly mentioned as Pokemon is still oriented at younger kids and the concept of death is something that is omitted on every occasion.

While some facts about Agatha might make it seem like she died, no, I don't think so. She doesn't look that old in her in-game artwork, so she might have left the Elite Four because, well, the period between R/B/Y and G/S/C is three years, so she might have become tired, or just too old.

She proably went off battling somewhere. She could still walk, so death three years later seems kinda unlikely. She's probably similar age to Bertha in Sinnoh.

May I redirect you to Lavender Town in general?

And for more specifics, the R/B/Y/G (and remakes) Marowak ghost, and the girl with the Cubone in the house who specifically says that Cubone's mother died escaping Team Rocket?

Back on topic, I think Agatha either died or retired. Who knows? We might see what became of her in a later game, even.

    ^ Ditto.

Also, there's the Pokemon Tower, the actual existence of Ghost Pokemon, the Pokedex entry of Yamask, etc. I could go on forever.

But to be honest, I doubt she is dead. It seems unlikely after so little time.

Need not be. Interesting thought, to be sure, but I take the side of the "retirement" sense of view. She might also have got some ailment which restricted her from battling, especially in such high platforms.

Well I think if you had read the Manga series you could know where she went. What I am trying to say here is that her fate happened just like in the manga

She retired and held down the veridian city gym Untill the pokemon league appointed a gym leader which is every body favorite rival Blue

Anything could have happened to her (viewing it from the games canon anyways), so I don't feel that her dying is a particularly more likely reason for any other (moved, retired, took a break, etc).

She could have even been replaced by the other members who may have earned their spot (for instance, Sabrina replaced the Karate King's gym by beating him up, which hardly sounded fair to me).

I can get where you get that idea but there's no evidence to back it up. Yes she was old but what about retirement? I can't imagine grandmas battling at the age of 92 especially not in something as pressurizing as the Elite Four. You'd have to work hard, think fast and maybe old Agatha couldn't cope with the job anymore. Maybe she's just taking a holiday and even though she stated that she liked battling, maybe she had another interest to pursue. The possibilities are endless but killing off an NPC wouldn't be too charming for the series especially when the player already had to go through Lavender Town. Game Freak already threw in its dose of death. :p

She wanted to explore new lands so she bought a ticket to Sinnoh and legally changed her name to Bertha. She loves battling and new challenges, so she decided to try raising a new party with new Pokemon. You'll notice that Bertha only uses Sinnoh Pokemon, yes? Even old people wanna be the very best. ;)

I think OP's English is actually decent compared to some of the more horrible ones I've read in this forum, at least better than yours in that post.

Now back on topic, you could say the same for every single character there is. What if one of them got run over by a car or something... What you think happened after the game is up to your imagination.

In the anime, Ash meets Agatha after his adventure in Hoenn. Obviously, the anime is independent from the games, but I thought that would be a fun fact to know.

Given that they given an explanation for where Lorelei went, but not Agatha, it's possible that this is what they originally implied in GSC. But if they ever have a Pokemon World Tournament that includes Elite 4 members, it's possible that Agatha would appear. So in other words, Agatha may be treated as dead to the series until Gamefreak finds it convenient to tell us about her whereabouts.

I always sort of thought that single old lady in the pokemon center near Mt. Silver in G/S/C was Agatha. No, there is not a shred of evidence to back this up.

Ah yes, retiring seems like the most likely explanation!
