Create a custom Pokemon TCG Card

Create a custom Pokemon TCG Card

Welcome to the Get-Together 2024, Villain Olympians!

In this event your goal is to create a realistic and interesting custom Pokémon card! Full details are below.

Rules:

-Users may only submit one card design.
-Use of card creator templates for the card itself is allowed. Some examples: https://pokecardmaker.net/creator & https://card-pokemon.com/ .
-The art section of the TCG card needs to feature your own art. You can either make new art or use art that you've previously made for this. The art just needs to be yours.
-No reusing TCG Cards that you've previously made.
-Since there is a 'Create a Pokemon' event, Fakemon are not allowed.
-No Supporters, Energies, Trainers, etc. Monster cards only.
-Full Art, Rainbow, Tag-Team, etc. designs are allowed.
-Keep the global Pokecommunity rules in mind.

Submitting your TCG card:

To submit your card just post it in this thread before the deadline. Please mention your team in your post as well.
Submission deadline is July 27th - 10:00 (GMT+2). To be clear this is 10 AM and not 10 PM.

Results should be publicly posted in this thread later that day, barring a flood of late submissions or unforeseen circumstances on my end.

Judging:

Your card will be judged based on:

-Accuracy of the information on the card. (Max score: 60)
Does all the info on the card check out? Basically: the card type, HP value, retreat cost, PokeDex info, move damage, etc.
A Natu card has anywhere from 30 to 60 HP and is either Psychic or Dark type, for example. Move/HP values do not have to be 100% accurate. They need to be comparable. If you for example give Natu 140 HP that's way too high and pretty inaccurate. If you give it 70 on the other hand that would still be acceptable.
For your set icon you're free to use a custom one if you have one!

-Originality of the Move(s)/Abilities/etc. (Max Score: 35)
Try to come up with a/some new move(s) for your specific card! Any damage values and special move effects are subject to a balancing check, but otherwise you can be creative here. You can give your own name to a new move and potentially add an effect to it or change an existing one. (this also applies to Abilities/Poke-Body etc.)

-The art. (Max Score: 40)
It needs to be your own art and it needs to be of the Pokemon the card is for. There should also be some sort of background.
Other Pokemon's presence in the art of your card is allowed, as long as the Pokemon the card is for is clearly the focus.

-Card as a whole. (Max Score: 15)
Potential points for the overall appeal of your card.

Gold Medal: 150 points

I wanted to take part in this event last year, because it looked fun, but never got around to it. This year I want to change that and submit something, even though I know almost nothing about tcg. Can I use any pokemon, or do I need to keep it within the theme of Team Magma/Aqua and other ground or water type pokemon to fit the the get-together theme?

You can make any monster card. Doesn't have to be Team Aqua/Team Magma themed. There are some achievements for doing certain things though.

I had considered making it only Team Aqua/Team Magma themed Pokemon, but figured it would probably be more fun if people can just pick whatever Pokemon they want.

If you know nothing about the TCG I'd recommend hitting up Serebii's TCG dex for the Pokemon you intend to do. I usually just type ''serebii tcg dex <pokemon name here>'' into Google rather than search Serebii for it, which can be clumsy to navigate at times. They have lists for every Pokemon where you can see every card ever made for that Pokemon.

One thing I want to know. Since you know that I am not good in drawing, hence can I use handmade drawing on paper via pencil, but using background from third-party method?

You can, you could just take a photo of your drawing when it's done and then use that as your image in the card template (the template site let's you crop the image). Might need to send the photo to yourself via email if the template site isn't mobile friendly (I've only used them on a computer).
So you could draw a background on paper too. The background doesn't have to be super fancy or complicated. You can keep it simple, just try to have something there so there isn't an empty void behind your Pokemon in the art.
Background does need to be self made as well.

I am here to try to pick up some participation points for Team Magma.

Evidently the fairy type is no longer used in tcg, and the card creators seemed not to have a fairy themed template anymore, so I made it by hand. Edit: Nvm, I got help finding the template I needed. Should be easier to read now 😃 Thanks Rekoil!

I gave her higher hp than others of her species in the trading card game, because the video game data for this trainer's pokemon showed it had unusually high stats that were similar to its evolution, so I modeled the hp and damage output after the final form in the evolutionary line. I also made it a basic form because the one he had was not supposed to be able to breed or have evolutions, and was treated more like a partner pokemon.

Much respect for tcg players, playing this seems like it requires a lot of skill, work and luck and I enjoyed finding out a little more about this part of the franchise, though I still have a lot to learn.

Just in case anyone else is looking for the Fairy type, the first link: https://pokecardmaker.net/creator
actually does have Fairy types, you just need to set the base set to anything aside from Scarlet/Violet.
The other template link does indeed not have Fairy types.

I'll be submitting this Swampert. A water/ground type to represent both sides of the aqua/magma feud. Its weak to lightning the way modern weaknesses are handled. Its set number is 5/11 because it's the fifth card being submitted on this thread for what I'm guessing may have eleven entrants.

Are we allowed to team up? I can't draw but I was wondering if my teammates can help with the art?

Hmmm... hadn't thought about that yet. Kinda feels like it might conflict a bit with one of the rules...

"-The art section of the TCG card needs to feature your own art. You can either make new art or use art that you've previously made for this. The art just needs to be yours."

...though if I consider 'your own art' as art from one person from a duo I think it still works. Given that the card will be from the duo as a whole.

I think I'll allow it, but the "Users may only submit one card design." rule still applies. So in that case whoever you pair up with will need to not have submitted anything yet and will also be checked off as having made a submission when you do.

No teaming up with more than 1 person though and they'll obviously need to be from the same team. You'll need to include the username of the other person in your submission as well.

That said you don't need to be able to draw well to get a decent score for the art part.

Kitty has unlocked an achievement and earned 5 points for Team Aqua =3

Poke Olympian (5 points):
Reference the Olympics/Pokeathlon either in your card's art or in your moves (or both).

Side note: I've begun scoring the cards submitted so far. Spent a large chunk of today scoring 4 of them (Volcarona, Lapras, Spectrier & Swampert).
Will be resuming that tomorrow after work =3
Edit next day: Scored Floette and Lotad as well now.
Edit 2, day after that: Scored Pikachu and Phione as well. Should be all caught up now =3

First, a reminder that there's roughly 36 hours left till the deadline for submissions for this event, for anyone still working on a submission!
Everyone's submitted lovely cards! =D

I was starting to wonder if it was going to happen or not, but... the secret achievement has been unlocked by apro; earning Team Magma 10 points!
This is a 1 time achievement and can't be unlocked again. The achievement was:

Team Promotion - Either plug a Team Aqua or Team Magma Pokemon in the background of your art or use one as your Pokemon for the card. - 10 points
Groudon and Kyogre both qualify for this, but a full list of qualifying Pokemon from the games and TCG is in the spoiler below.
