    [PokeCommunity.com] Coins and their prices

This caught my attention recently: the pricing system for coins doesn't make any sense.
Edit: I'm in Canada, so this might be Canadian dollars.

Ok, let's say you want 1200 coins. You could either buy the bag for $13.99, or you could buy the stack of 100 multiple times, for $0.99 ? 12. That equals $11.88. Buying in bulk is actually MORE expensive.

This holds true for the rest of them too: compare buying 550 coins for $6.99 to buying 6 stacks of 100 for $0.99 ? 6 = $5.94. That gets you 50 MORE coins for a dollar less.

    In list form:
    550 coins costs $6.99 in bulk, or 600 coins costs $0.99 ? 6 = $5.94 in stacks of 100
    1200 coins costs $13.99 in bulk, or $0.99 ? 12 = $11.88 in stacks of 100
    2500 coins costs $27.99 in bulk, or $0.99 ? 25 = $24.74 in stacks of 100
    5200 coins costs $54.99 in bulk, or $0.99 ? 52 = $51.48 in stacks of 100
14500 coins costs $139.99 in bulk, or $0.99 ? 145 = $143.55 in stacks of 100 (this is the only exception, where bulk is cheaper)

Why is buying in bulk almost always MORE expensive? That's the opposite of how these things are intended to work, microtransaction currency stores almost always give you a little bit discount for buying more (e.g. 100 for a dollar, 550 for five dollars).

Why would anyone do anything BUT buy 100 for $0.99 and then multiply that by as much as they desire?

P.S. Yes, I've thought about tax, but tax is applied by percentage, so I don't think it would mean $0.99 ? 12 would accrue more tax than a single payment of $13.99, if my logic holds up.

In Euros, the prices make sense.

Maybe it is like the imperial system? Feet and inches and gallons and ounces and fahrenheit do not make sense, why should prices in US dollars make sense?

Those aren't the US prices, these are.

    Spoiler:

Compared it to my phone and everything, those are the prices for at least the US Android version.

Hm, yes indeed, those prices in US dollars do make sense with the model of getting a discount for buying in bulk. So the question is mainly why did the Canadian pricing localization screw Canadians over so poorly?

I can't help but notice that 100 coins costs 99 cents in both US dollars and Canadian dollars. It also means that Americans pay more for 100 coins than Canadians do, since 1 American dollar is about 1.33 Canadian dollars right now.

Also, this puts the scale for the rest of the Canadian items way off, that might be the culprit. For example, if 100 coins cost $1.33 Canadian, then $1.30 x 12 would equal more money than the bulk price for 1200 coins.
