as those who have played swsh know,

Spoiler:

chairman rose is the main antagonist of the games.

what do you think of this? please mark spoilers appropriately, since not everyone has played the games yet! what do you think of his character and design in general?

 

[Skalesgon]

He was impatient and reckless. Kept going on about something that will happen in a thousand years.

There was also nearly killing Leon. But Eternatus was more responsible.

 

[Fairy]

I get major Alexander Hamilton vibes from him. Protecting his legacy and all that while simultaneously not realizing that his legacy is the impact he has on the people and Pokemon he's with *now*.

Spoiler:

I wasn't too impressed with the reveal that he's a villain, but it's also not the worst twist ever. Kinda nice that the token evil team wasn't so evil after all though!

 

[CF1994]

Spoiler:

The twist could have been executed better, seeing as Rose did not act villainously until you defeat Oleana, who could have had a larger role, personally speaking, but this is about Rose, though.

Rose's actions should have been shown onscreen, as with many of the game's missed opportunities, like Bede's fallout from his disqualification and more about Leon and his old rivalry with Sonia.

The guy was a nice and affable businessman that was very easy to spot even in Incognito. I do like his sinister-sounding battle theme, though.

 

[Sheep]

i liked him! he has a fun personality that i would've loved to see expanded, it's entertaining to watch.

Spoiler:

as an evil team boss though.. definitely not as great. :< he doesn't have much depth in that regard and had no real reason for needing to execute his grand plan on the day of the championship battle. it's a shame because he did have a lot of potential there, and i still like him, but the whole reveal and reasoning wasn't executed nearly as well as it could have been.

 

[Ninetales]

Most uninteresting, one-dimensional, flat villain yet. There was no backstory to detail his rise to power and his motivations were not properly explained, among other issues. GameFreak could've done so much with him and they failed to deliver. They've been in a cycle of producing lackluster villains for a few generations now. I loved the vast majority of swsh characters but Chairman Rose was not it.

 

[Cherrim]

I liked him on the surface, but I thought the big reveal was poorly done.

Spoiler:

It was sudden and confusing and although I saw it coming from a mile away just because he was the big CEO in charge and that makes me suspicious in any media, I was still kind of blindsided at how it was handled. The stakes and pacing in SwSh were really strange, though, and it makes me wonder if it went through a lot of reworking during the development process.

I think he could have been handled a lot better. If he'd had better motivation, I would have been a lot happier with his role.

 

[Reyzadren]

Best designed character afaik in the whole game series (and my favourite character).

He's just in the wrong game :P

You know what, that's a great way of putting it and I agree. In a different game his character would have been able to flourish much more.
