So I've noticed something weird lately with my cats. It seems they're repulsed by the smell of Mountain Dew. Both cats with multiple flavors will recoil from the scent (one will even flee the room after getting a good sniff) whenever I offer the can or bottle over to them to investigate.

This got me wondering, is it just my cats that act like this? Is it just Mountain Dew that has something in it that repulses cats? It's not the carbonation bubbles getting to them, I've checked for that, and while one puts her nose right up to the can, the other recoiled from 3-4 inches away. I want to experiment but it's a bit hard to justify buying different sodas I don't drink for the sole purpose of letting the cats sniff it.

Have any of you ever noticed a reaction from your cat to soda? If you have a cat and some soda maybe offer it a sniff next time you drink some and post the results.

I'm confused; are the sodas multiple flavors, or the cats? Because if you know what flavors your cats are, Imma call PETA on you.

Cats are really weird like that. Like...they're even scared of cucumbers.

Other than that, I honestly don't know...and I was a former cat owner. They have a different sense of smell than we do.

Haha, I meant the flavors of Mountain Dew. However, they do shed quite a bit, and one of them is fond of smacking me in the face with her tail. So I've definitely gotten an unwilling mouthful of fur on more than one occasion.

As for the different sense of smell, they definitely do. Which is why I'm curious to see what about at least Mountain Dew is so unappealing to them.

This is why I hate cats

i have no idea what mountain dew is actually supposed to taste like but i know cats hate the smell of citrus

Them hating citrus doesn't stop my cat from always wanting to see what I have when I have an orange. :P Yes cat, it's still an orange. You've smelled one before, it smells like all the other oranges.

I haven't had Mountain Dew anytime recently to check to see how my cat reacts to it, though I do know he's not too fond of the cola and Dr. Pepper I tend to have, heh.
