Catching Full-HP Pokemon

Yesterday I caught Pokemon without reducing their HP at all, using De-fog, Sing, and a plain ole Pokeball. (My hunting party was too strong and I tried this out of desperation the first time.) Has anyone else tried doing this, and did you succeed? I knew I could catch creatures in the high-yellow HP range easier using Tail-whip, but thought it was necessary to at least inflict a little damage before capture...

No, stats influence a lot of capturing pokemon, if a pokemon raises their stats, it becomes harder to catch, like the regis on emerald when they use curse, it is next to impossible to catch them

It's very common to capture pokemon without giving him a damage...
    I'm doing this very often

Status effects also play a big part in catching pokemon. You can catch a legendery pokemon at full heath just by poisining, paralyzing, ect.

Using stat-altering moves has no effect whatsoever on the chance of capturing a Pokémon. Only Pokémon' HP (current and total), catch rate and status conditions, and the catch rate of the Poké Ball affect the chances.

my best was one ultra ball on a deoxys lv 30 tht hadnt been weakened in anyway, no stat reduction no effect and no hp reduction just started the battle and caught it with my 1st ultra ball

I knew that status effects like sleep and paralysis are helpful during capture both from experience and because my players' guides all say so... What surprised me was there was no need to reduce HP at all! This makes me wonder if Pokemon caught in this manner wouldn't be more friendly towards you from the get-go?

I've heard that certain Pokemon have a better chance of making a capture than others, just like the different balls have different capture abilities. Is there a link you can give me to a list on here of the Pokemon capture rates? I'd love to check it out...

Tribulations: So you're saying using De-fog and Tail-whip didn't help. :-[ I thought they did, because I've gotten Pokemon down to where they should go in a ball, wouldn't, tail-whipped them a couple of times, and then caught them with the same type of ball I was previously using without doing anything else. Hmmm, very interesting...

    I'm loving the input, y'all!

I do it all the time. If anything, at times I just use stat reducers to make it a bit easier.

@Rosepuggins: check Serebii.net, they give capture rates for each Pokemon.

I've been doing this more as well. I made my trip to catch Dialga and Palkia, I only had a few Great Balls and Quick Balls to
call my own. I went into battle with Dialga and caught him instantly with a Quick Ball. However I did not have the
same luck with Palkia. It took a Hypnosis and a few Great Balls to catch him (full HP). I was pretty proud despite the fact
that they both have high catch rates.

When I chain Pokemon I usually try to put them to sleep and catch them to make things quicker.

Edit: Rosepuggins, here is a link to the catch rate list. They go from highest to lowest. Click here.

Ahhh, thanks for this link. I knew I'd seen that info somewhere, guess it was on a different forum. :-P

I'd be proud too lol! Haven't had the inclination to chain for shinies yet, but will remember your trick when the time comes. Thanks for your link, as well. I guess I did see that info here after all! (There are so many posts to go through, it makes my head spin!)

They wouldn't let me respond with your links in my text (too new a member yet), so I've fudged them to keep the quotes in. Thanks for your help and patience!

It's not actually that hard.. you just have to use stat weakeners xD

I do this from time to time also.

Although one time I caught Dialga with a quick ball
without using any moves. I was pretty happy :)

Umm, or it was luck? Idk, if this happens alot, I'd start to wonder what's up, but if people win the lottery, this is possible.

I tend to use quick balls a lot and they work the first time and nest balls help a lot with these is well, once I got really lucky and I caught the lvl 70 Groudon in Emerald with a repeat ball even though I didn't own one.

Sleep will probably be the best choice in any catching situation unless the pokemon already has another status effect

My claim to fame is definately one that nobody believes. I remember it clear as crystal, though. I was busy fighting Articuno on my Blue version, and I was becoming more frustrated with every reset. Eventually I just reset the game and as soon as the battle started, I threw a regular Pokeball. Lo and Behold, it caught.

    I screamed. xD

I so this every day... Stupid question. Yesterday I caught Miltank and Tauros with one pokéball. In pokémon Gold I have caught Ho-oh with one ultraball (I was lucky). When I played Liquid Crystal I caught Sudowoodo and Red Gyarados with one pokéball (In Gold that was harder). And if pokémon doesn't want come to first ball I throw more. When I have threw about 5 balls I try to damage it and then I throw ball again! In D/P/Pl this has come harder but Giratina was easy one! I used only one ultraball to that too! (After trying to catch it 3 times...)
