3rd Gen Can I still obtain the tamato berry?

I am looking for a Tamato berry in Pokemon Emerald. I am aware of them being randomly gifted sometimes by Kiri and the Berry Master, but I got different useful berries from them and can't receive any new ones now because the internal battery on the cartridge ran dry, stopping all the daily events. I considered putting in a fresh battery, but heard that this doesn't reset every clock-based event- berries planted can regrow with a new battery, but daily presents from an npc won't restart unless you create a new save file. Is that correct, or will a new battery trigger the event-giving again?

If a new battery doesn't solve my problem then is there any other way to obtain a Tamato berry on this game, or is it exclusively locked behind Kiri and the Master?

If you somehow happen to have four GBAs, four Wireless Adapters, and four FRLG or Emerald cartridges that have progressed to Two Island or Mossdeep City, you can win a Tamato Berry randomly through Dodrio Berry Picking. Otherwise, it's exclusively time-locked. No idea whether battery replacement will fix it, either.

This problem happens when your save file's timestamp is later than the timestamp reported by the cartridge's real-time clock (RTC).

When you replace the battery, the RTC is "reset" to zero, but your save file's timestamp stays where it was before the battery was replaced. The game will only update your save file's time if it is lower than the time reported by the RTC, which means you're stuck with a save file timestamp likely years ahead of the RTC's current timestamp.

Since date-based events only work when the RTC is counting ahead of the save file's timestamp, date-based events like berries will never work until the RTC reaches the time on your save file again. Of course, that's a problem, because that's likely around the time your original battery died. Any guesses when the new one will die?

As stated here, you have three ways to fix this problem:
  1. Reset your save file. This will replace the timestamp on your save file, meaning the RTC will count ahead once again.
  2. Manually alter your save data to bring it behind the RTC time (and therefore the RTC will be ahead again).
  3. Change the RTC timestamp to be roughly the same as your cartridge timestamp, or ahead of it.
The latter two options require access to homebrew or save file dumping, which is difficult to come by for old consoles like GBA. If you have a DS Lite/Phat and a DS flashcart, you can load software onto the flashcart that will change the RTC in the inserted Game Pak. If you can dump your save file, you can change the RTC data using PKHeX. Apparently, there were also GBA flashcarts that would load software onto a GBA console then allow you to insert your cartridge and change its RTC timestamp. I don't know how you'd come by such things in 2022.

You can also clone them if you do have any. I believe they can be found in Sootopolis somewhere... Wait nvm no that's Kiri.

Thanks everybody for trying to help.

I was hoping to do this legally, and it's not looking like that can happen unless I delete this save file- and I am not quite ready to do that until I at least get all the battle frontier symbols and transfer my pokemon out. I definitely don't have four gbas wireless adapters and Emerald copies 😄 Accepting that I may have no legitimate way left, is there perhaps a glitch I can perform that doesn't require a physical cheating device, say an exploit that can wipe a pokemon's evs?

idk about resetting EVs, but there's a technique called "Glitzer Popping" that can be used to obtain any Pokémon or item, which would of course include EV Berries. Always be wary of exploiting glitches though as they may do more harm than good to your save file. I still have two corrupted boxes on VC Gold from trying to gen a second Dig TM. T_T

Hi

You can change the battery and almost everything will work properly, daily events like the Berry Master or the lottery won't have issues, those kind of events reset at 12:00 a.m. each day.

The issue is with events that take more than one day like the old man in Pacifidlog Town that gives you a TM every 7 days and berries already planted (this is because a hidden date time inside the game).

To fix that issue you need a way to access to your cartridge through a PC or a DS (fat or Lite) and an R4.

Apart of that you can play the game normally, plant new berries and get berries for several characters, the lottery and the "day and night cycle" to evolve Eevee.

You can fix the time clock issue after doing a battery swap, you just need a DS or DS Lite, and a DS flash cart. There's deta8led instructions on how to fix the time clock without restarting your game here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...mon-games-after-replacing-the-battery.558620/
