i don't think many people use butterfree probably because of its crappy stats, but i've always been quite fond of it because he's easy to raise and he appears at the beginning of games and evolves early and gives you instant offense when you're starting a new game. we're talking full evolution and confusion at level 10. for one reason or another most people probably leave him in the storage after they capture some rares/legendary/OU but who can blame them. butterfree is probably not the best of pokemon, but i think with the right movesets he can be at least decent.

    i propose

    butterfree@salac berry[jolly]
    EVs hp, SpAtt, SpDef
    -aerial ace
    -sleep powder
    -whirlwind
    -psychic

    or perhaps
    -whirlwind
    -sleep powder
    -stun spore
    -psychic

    or
    -double team
    -sleep powder
    -rest
    -psychic

i just started on FR and LG so if i appear like a noob it's because i kinda am, eventhough i mastered RBY. i'm still kinda new with the whole nature and EV's and i'm not familiar with all of the moves in the game, nevermind all nearly 400 pokemon.

I find Butterfree works best with Sleep Powder/Stun Spore/Psychic/HP Water.

Sleep Powder and Stun Spore together make a really annoying combination, and if Sleep Clause is on you can paralyze the other pokemon ;)

Psychic because it's Butterfree's strongest Special Attack, and since it's Sp.Atk is higher than it's Atk, it's best to run through Sp.Atk.

HP Water to cover things like Tyranitar, who you can't Psychic, also gives you a slight chance at Houndoom.

Butterfree is not used because of it's bad movepool, and crappy stats.

That has potential to be a very annoying butterfly, LH.

You sets good, but you forgot EVs:252 Sp. attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP/Sp. def.

Speed so it can Sleep Powder them before they attack, and then the Sp. attack so you can smack them with a nice powerful Psychic, or HP [Water]. Then give it a Timid or Modest nature.
    :D

    Here's mine...

    Silver Wind
    Aerial Ace
    Toxic
    Supersonic

Butterfree's Compound Eyes ability raises its accuracy by 30% for all of it's moves, so Supersonic's accuracy is 95 instead of 55, Toxic will certainly hit for recurring damage, & SW and AA for STAB. (Toxic + Confuse Ray/Supersonic[for Compound Eyes Pogeys] is one of the best combos yet.)

    There ya go.

Butterfree dies too easily. One hit he's dead most of the time.
    So here's my set:
    Butterfree @ Quick Claw/Petaya Berry
Evs: 252 Speed 252 Sp. Attack 4 HP
    Sleep Powder
    Psychic/Dream Eater
    Silver Wind/HP Water
    Substitute

See if you have a Petaya Sub with Dream Eater = Pwnadge. Well let's ignore the sleep clause for the moment...

Yay sub. The most overused move in the game. ^^

Hmm Butterfree is one of my FR team members, It basically has status affecting moves

    Sato's FireRed Butterfree Lv 45:
    Psybeam
    Poisonpowder
    Sleep powder
    Flash

    Back
