I've heard before of this trick and it works. I know a particular situation in where you should use the Box Trick, it is the following. When your Pokémon reaches level 100, its stats will be final, and they can't be raised anymore. However, if you have ever used rare candies, or put your Pokémon in the day-care where it gained levels, it means that the Pokémon missed out on some stat points. This is because, when you level up your Pokémon with a rare candy, it doesn't gain any stat increases from EV points it has, it only gets the stat increases it would normally get. (If you don't know exactly what EVs are, I suggest you take a look at this page on Serebii: https://www.serebii.net/games/evs.shtml)

This means that when your Pokémon is level 100, it could still have gotten some stat points. The Box Trick is the solution for that, it is where you put your Pokémon in the box, and take it out again. The stats are recalculated, and it will have gained the stats it has missed out on. I did read that it would only change one stat point at a time, so you will have to do it a few times, if you aren't sure about it. Hope this helps!

    Oh , I know EVs.

So let me try to understand. If I put a Lv 100 Pokemon in the daycare or PC Box, it'll still gain EVs that it lost if it was given rare candies or in the day-care?

(Sorry, that comment got posted too early, I posted it by accident. I added the missing part.) Ah that's good then. Well if you know about EVs, that makes it a lot easier to explain. Basically, when you level your Pokémon with a Rare Candy, or in the Day-care, it doesn't get the stat increases from the EV points it has. E.g., if it has 4 attack EVs, and you level it up with a Rare Candy instead of naturally, it doesn't get that stat point in attack. Now, let's say your Pokémon reached level 100, but still needs this point it missed out on, that's when you can apply the box trick. I've never tried it out myself, but I've heard about it multiple times, and it seems to work. The game just recalculates the stats when you put them in the box. Sorry, I explained it a little messy XD

I've never heard of this. It seems like it would be eerie for Pokemon's stats to go up when they are already at level 100. Does this work for later games too?

    It varies.

In Generation I and II the method works as previously described as the game recalculates Pokémon stats when you withdraw them from the box, and Pokémon at level 100 will still gain Stat EXP from battling.

In Generations III and IV the only way Pokémon gain EVs through battle is by gaining experience, so the only way for level 100 Pokémon to gain or lose EVs is via vitamins and berries.

In Generation V the trick is unnecessary as all Pokémon have their stats recalculated immediately after the end of a battle and all Pokémon regardless of level will gain EVs from regular battling, which results in stats changing as soon as a Pokémon gains EVs.
