Benefits of Pikachu Evolving

I want to talk about Pikachu a sec. JUST A HYPOTHETICAL. Say Pikachu did evolve. How do you feel he would benefit as A Raichu?

It would benefit immensely. Ash's Pikachu, at max power, can take on legendaries like Latios and Regice. It was able to learn Volt Tackle on it's own, without the necessary items and breeding. It can even hit ground-types with electric moves. Imagine what it could do if it evolved. Would it be able to solo mascot legendaries, like Groudon or Palkia? Would be able to hit ground-types super-effectively with electric moves? Would it be able to go past Level 100? Only Arceus knows. And he's the only who will know, since Ash is too much of a pussy to just do it and give his Pikachu the Thunder Stone he rightfully deserves.

Remember that Pikachu is the one that does not wish to evolve. Ash had the Thunder Stone in hand very early on ready to evolve Pikachu if it wanted to and it smacked the stone out of his hand. The real reason it won't evolve is because Pikachu is the show's mascot and most iconic symbol, but the show reason is Pikachu doesn't want to. It would have more electricity and could squash opponents with body slam as Raichu, but it would lose speed and quickness also.

It would lose to other Pikachu that know Agility.

Pikachu hasn't used Agility since maybe the Johto saga, though?

As for how it would benefit Pikachu, I don't think evolving would benefit him at all. Since those two are an inseparable team, the idea of how Pikachu would benefit is Raichu is unclear to me, honestly. Maybe stronger Electric attacks? Also, I highly doubt all Raichu slow down once evolving from Pikachu. =/ I know Pikachu will never evolve (and it never should), but I do think it would benefit with its strength, and that's it, maybe.

I agree with everything but the last point. In the games, Pikachu has base 90 speed, while Raichu has 110.

Then Ash/Satoshi would leave Raichu behind at the start of the next series...

Pikachu's strength is rather flexible in the show... which you could chalk up to it being only a second stage evolution. but if it's a Raichu everyone would call foul if it loses to a weaker pokemon...

Imagine if you will... if Ash/Satoshi's Raichu lost to a Snivy who's never even battled before... :D

If it does evolve, then nothing of value would be achieved... Ash's Pikachu has patented "The Power of Friendship" that most shounen shows have (This gives it the power to KO ground types with Electric type moves gives it that sudden burst of power out of nowhere)... having this ability enables it to be Strong or even Stronger than a Raichu. Since the "Power of Friendship" is intangible (And doesn't care about Pikachu's power ceiling, which allows it to be as strong as it needs to be)... Even if it does Evolve into a Raichu, It's strength would be the same as a Pikachu who's using the power of friendship...

:D

I feel that if Ash's Pikachu was actually allowed to evolve, it would be much more difficult for the writers to even partially 'reset' Ash for a new series-especially so with the upcoming Sun/Moon saga. Allowing Pikachu to evolve, in other words, would require that Ash continue character development progressively for each new region he goes to (sort of like the transition to new regions pre-Best Wishes-there would be virtually no room for a BW-style reset with Pikachu evolving into Raichu).

I wasn't really considering the games since we were talking about the show. I was also kind of only thinking about the "Electric Shock Showdown" episode since Pikachu won with speed moves.

Like what was mentioned, Pikachu has expressed desire not to evolve. Also, there was a DP episode (I believe it was called Pika And Goliath!, where Ash faces a trainer who uses a Raichu) where Team Rocket actually stole the Thunder Stone, which pretty much sealed Pikachu's fate of staying as it is.

True, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Ash won't get another Thunder Stone at some point (probably long down the road when Pikachu gets badly defeated by yet another Raichu or some other powerful Pok?mon. Besides, who knows what's coming down the pike with the overall revamp for the Sun/Moon saga.)

The Thunder Stone getting stolen has another good jumping-off point: it was probably a way for the writers to decide "hey, now we can reset Ash and have him start off as a newbie all over again" at any time they wish.

They still complained when Pikachu lost to a freaking Snivy with no experience. Which is rightfully earned. The BW saga was a dark time. The only thing I liked was when Bianca cam in and demolished Trip in the league like it was nothing.

Seeing Emboar fling around Conkledurr's pillars like nun-chucks was pretty nice.

Back to the topic though.

Pikachu hasn't lost to rookies at all in XY, and hopefully won't in future sagas, so I see no reason for that to be used. If he isn't going to lose now, he won't have to lose with a Raichu.

Also Raichu could still lose. Just because it's fully evolved doesn't make it invincible. Although if Ash had Raichu, it would ave swept Alain's entire team. Pikachu cleared half of them already. So he'd be pretty powerful.

That said, it still can lose. As we saw in XY, important characters didn't play dumb. They monitored Ash's moves or had their own tough to beat strategies. Therefore a Raichu losing would be to hard to make realistic.

And how does it evolving have anything to do with Ash's character? Ash isn't built around Pikachu.

Ash is built around being a hero, and someone who cares deeply with Pokemon. He is able to develop strong bonds and his goal revolves around adventuring and getting better.

Where does Pikachu or A Raichu factor in there? Nowhere...

It's just his mascot mon and friend. There'd be no lack of story for Ash, or reason to leave it behind, it could still follow Ash around. It really wouldn't change Ash's character. If anything it changes Pikachu's.

So there really is no reason why they won't evolve it. At least not like that. The only reason it wont evolve is because it's to iconic. If Raichu was the mascot he'd be Ash's lead. Same way, Clefairy was going to be the mascot at one point.

Pikachu has star power, Raichu doesn't unfortunately. Pikachu appeals well to children and has become to known to change it now. That's why it won't evolve. Other then that, we have no other reasons for no Raichu.
