Having only just making it into Kanto, I'm at Vermillion City and I'm wondering how I'm going to play Kanto this time around.

I'm wondering whether to take on the Kanto Gym Leaders in chronological order as in Gold/Silver/Crystal and HeartGold/SoulSilver (which I did all those years ago), chronological order as in Red/Blue/Yellow and FireRed/LeafGreen or to take on each Gym Leader from weakest to strongest (Janine to Blue).

Now I haven't done too much research, but I'm unsure if you can even re-create the nostalgic R/B/Y and FR/LG order of Gym Leaders, because of Pewter City being blocked off beforehand by Snorlax. Even if you can't, it's not too big a deal.

So, how did you play Kanto when it came to taking on the Gym Leaders? The order that's presented in this series of games or a completely different order?

I battled the gym leaders whenever I reached the towns. xD

I just played them in more or less the order that I entered the cities, so it was Lt. Surge first, etc. No real order. On the original Silver I did play them in the RBY order (or the best that I could), but I think that was because I didn't know you didn't have to. On the plus side, if you do it in order you do see a lot more of Kanto (e.g. Mount Moon, Rock tunnel).

Anyway, I think you can only fight Blue last however you do it, because he won't return to Viridian Gym if you haven't got 7 Kanto badges.

You don't have to battle any of the Gym Leaders before you do the whole Machine Part/Rocket Battle/Wake up Snorlax, so you could do it in chronological order. You could just cruise through town on your first visit and ignore the gyms till later. That's what I did.

As for me, I know I'll be battling Brock and Misty first, but I might not strictly stick with chronological order after that.

I played it in the order that it's presented in Silver. I never thought this lessened nostalgia. In fact I liked it better this way because its sort of like "retracing your steps" until you finally get back to the good old Viridian and Pallet towns. The end of your Silver journey was roughly the beginning of your Red/Blue journey. (not counting Mt.Silver, etc). That seems fitting to me.

Of course it's possible to visit every single town, do all the Power Plant stuff, wake up Snorlax, go all the way to Pallet town, and then start beating the gyms in order (not to mention progressively weaker rather than stronger gym leaders), but that doesn't make much sense to me.

Hmmm...I'm gonna start with Misty, after doing the Power Plant quest, so that I can get Suicune.

Then I'll probably travel every Route in Kanto before I battle other leaders.

I'm Gonna Get Every City Done , Every Gym Done Except the Leader and Every Road done , re-battle plenty of people and then challenge the leaders , so I won't keep dying , my team will at least be 55 every pokemon :)

I battled Lt. Surge first, then just battled the gym leader that was in the next city I reached.

    I did

    Surge > Erica > Sabirna > Janina > Misty > Brock > Blane > Blue

Then did Blue and got my Squirtel :D
