So did anyone enjoy the Battle Tents in Pokemon Emerald? Did they prepare you for the Battle Frontier? Or did you prefer that there be Contest Halls instead of having them all rolled into one in Lilycove?

I personally didn't like the Battle Tents. They were interesting, and were a good foresight of what was to come in the Frontier, but they weren't as enjoyable as contests. And having to wait so long for a Pokeblock case really blows. Plus, I thought it was more enjoyable that the contest halls were spread out. Similar to how if you advance in a contest or some tournament in real life, it's going to be somewhere else rather than all the ranks in the same place. That's like if we had elementary school football played in NFL stadiums. It just doesn't go that way. But anyway, the tents were outclassed by the time you had access to the Frontier, so I just didn't see the point in it.

Oh, those things... At first, I was intrigued by them, but I got very disappointed with them when I found out that they were essentially a "poor man's Battle Frontier". Admittedly, it does save time by consolidating all the Contest Rank stages in Lilycove City, but there's something appealing about your Pokemon rising through the ranks and the player traveling around Hoenn until they reach the real competition of Trainers who gather together in Lilycove. Moreover, having the Contest Halls spread out gives the player an additional reason to bother to visit Verdanturf Town, Slateport City, and Fallarbor Town. Lilycove City already had the Master Rank Contest Hall among several other attractions; the city didn't need to inherit all the other Contest Ranks, too. XD

Also, I agree about what Sydian said about how in real-life, there are different locations used for each level of a contest/tournament.

So yeah, the Battle Tents were underwhelming (and kind of a waste of space/data :<), once you find out about the Battle Frontier's existence. The items given (dependent on location - they are the Nest Ball, Full Heal, Hyper Potion) are a bit paltry... If RS remakes ever become a reality, I'm hoping that the Contest Halls are spread out like how Ruby/Sapphire had them, despite the process going from rank to rank taking a few seconds longer due to the player having to travel more.

If Battle Tents return in some form in the future (possibly in RS remakes), I was hoping that there is a single building called "Battle Tent" that would be an additional new facility for Hoenn's Battle Frontier, situated somewhere near there. :< This building would use the same exterior/interior tiles/graphic used for Emerald's Battle Tents (aka, that red-and-white design used on the outside that features the Hoenn Battle Frontier logo). I've envisioned that Daisy Oak would be the Frontier Brain of such a facility. She's kind of a mystery in the games, yet several sources allude to her supposed great talent(s). I think it would be neat if she made a cameo as a Frontier Brain, somehow... XD

Fun Fact: amidst the mass replacing of the non-Lilycove Contest Halls with Battle Tents in Emerald, the Verdanturf Town site's map has a tile error present, where one of the trees near the Rusturf Tunnel in the overworld is incomplete. There's a certain "corner/tile" on the left side of Verdanturf that you have to be standing in to see this tile error, IIRC.

Heck yes I loved those things. I don't think there was anything in Emerald that I didn't like, but I did like the Battle Tents.

Not so much the one in Slateport City, though. Level 30 Pokemon at that point to control was neat, but with pretty tragic moves and pitiful stats, abilities, and natures? Yeah, pretty...lame.

But the other two tents were fun. Letting my Pokemon battle without me controlling them was really neat. It was fun to learn that the different natures ultimately decided what moves they would use on their own.

The last tent was pretty decent. Basically you either know out the Pokemon, or do the most significant amount of damage to win. I like that idea.

But still, I would much rather the Contest Halls be put back. Venturing around Hoenn for contests made it seem more realistic, and it was a lot more fun that way rather than having them all in one building.

Contests were more fun in general. I did like the Battle Tents, but the Battle Frontier seriously towers over it and it was pointless. I guess you could call it "practice". It wasn't useful though. They were pointless overall.

It's a lot cooler to travel around and enter contests. I think that was one of its strong points.

I never liked them. The first time, sure, they were fine, but once you reach the Battle Frontier they pretty much lose all purpose. I always thought contests were much funner. At least they weren't completely removed to make way for them. It was just annoying to have to wait for later because they were replaced by some boring tents.

I liked some of them but in the end I prefered how RS did it with the contests in multiple towns rather than all in the one place. If I wanted to do those tent challenge I'd go to the Battle Frontier for that. Besides, all the contests in one location felt a bit crowded imo.

The only battle tent I did enjoy was the one in Slateport. Renting Pokemon is the best. The others however, were lame excuses, and they were really unneeded repeats of the Battle Frontier facilities. So, I prefer having separate contest halls, all in all.

I loved the battle tents just because I get to use new Pokémon, haha. Plus I give up after one battle because I don't really like battling. I was so shocked at the Slateport City one because they were level 30 and mine were just 20 something, so I thought they were strong, until I thought that leveling a Pokémon to level 30 was easy, then I never used that tent again.

The Fallarbor one was cool, I can't remember their levels but I always use that one. But still I prefer the contests spread out, like gyms, so it has the challenging feel to it.

I think I may have ventured in the first one you come across once. Otherwise, I really paid them no mind. Since neither Exp nor BP was earned and the prizes were rather meh, I never saw a reason to try them.

Having the individual contest halls was better IMO.
