    Archipelago: Magma V Aqua

    What is Archipelago?

Archipelago is described as a "multiworld multi-game randomizer". Multiple players can choose their own games to play (or they can all choose to play the same game separately!), and items from each player's chosen game are randomized and scattered into other players' games. The goal is to send each other items and complete the win condition for each game.

For example, let's say Player A is playing Pokémon Emerald and Player B is playing Super Mario 64. Player A might pick up an item while playing Pokémon Emerald that unlocks a Power Star for Player B, which allows them to continue onto a part of the game that requires a specific number of Power Stars to access. Likewise, Player B might unlock HM Surf by completing a specific level in Super Mario 64, thus giving Player A access to more areas in Hoenn.

What is the Magma V Aqua twist?

Players will be split into their teams and each team will have their own Archipelago Multiworld, which is basically an interconnected set of games as described previously. Both teams will compete to complete all of the games in the team's Multiworld the fastest over the course of the Get-Together event.

How does your team gain points?

GT Points can be earned by assisting your team in collecting as many items in your game as possible. Some items unlock game progression, and other items are just collected to earn GT points.

First Multiworld Completion - 50 Points

The first team to complete all of their chosen games will be awarded 50 points. All unclaimed items in completed games are automatically distributed, so players don't have to worry about finding every single item they can, since they'll be sent out to their respective games once the game meets its completion condition. HOWEVER, any GT Items released by game completion will NOT count towards their respective goals.

Other than just completing your team Multiworld, there are special items that can be collected to earn points for your team. These GT Items have no bearing on in-game progression and do not actually unlock any items, but are purely for point-collection.

Randomly Distributed Points - 50 for each team (100 Total)

Players may find items that directly earn points for their team. Each team has a total of 50 points randomly distributed throughout all of their games.

Key Chests - Pool of 100 Points distributed

Players within a team must collect a specific number of GT Keys to open a GT Chest. With each chest that gets opened, the number of keys required to open another chest increases. The first chest will require only 3 keys found, while the second chest requires 5 keys to unlock, and so on. Opening all GT Chests will give a team 100 points.

Magma V Aqua Daily Battle Winner - 50 Points

You may also find GT Items that unlock Armor and Weapons for your team. Each team has the same number of Armor and Weapons to find, but they are all randomly distributed throughout all games in the team's Multiworld. Each weapon can deal damage to the opposing team at the end of the day, while armor will block that incoming damage.

    Example scenario:
Team Magma might find armor that blocks 20 damage. Team Aqua has a weapon that does 30 damage. Once the day ends, Team Magma will take a total of 10 damage, which lowers their team's health.

    What games can be played?

Archipelago supports a massive amount of games, but for Pokémon fans, the following games are available as of writing:

    Pokémon Red
    Pokémon Crystal (in beta)
    Pokémon Emerald
Pokémon Fire Red/Leaf Green (in beta)

I encourage everyone to look at the following resources to find a game that you would like to run for this event.

https://archipelago.gg/games - Fully supported games that have been tested extensively
https://multiworld.news/apworlds.html - List of every game, including in-development beta games. Play at your own risk, as certain games may be less stable than others.

    Team: Magma

Selects Link to the Past to play. Attached a .zip file containing the YAML. Presumes this method to be fine.

Chose enemy shuffle, probably Big Key/Compass/Map shuffle, probably a random-high crystal goal, 15-30 slot shopsanity with different costs, and possible bomb bag shuffle, for anyone curious.

I'm going to play A Short Hike. I've adjusted the settings to use the Hard Logic this time, so I don't end up collecting items out of logic anymore.

I'd like to play Pokemon Red, a .zip file containing the YAML file is attached to this post.

    OKAY HERE WE GO

Some people above have already taken the initiative and submitted their YAML files for Archipelago already!

If you would like to join, I've allotted 48 hours for interested individuals to create their settings files and ensure their games will work come 48 hours time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask myself. I can help with setup, YAML settings, etc.

yes please! Im completely lost, please provide a step-by-step guide for setting up starting with opening Archipelago.gg. I tried for Pokemon Red, but I dont even know how to tell if I succeeded so Im not posting the result. If you can recommend some other game with easier setup, thats fine too

I world love to join in, but I'm also completely lost at what I'm suppose to do. I tried to generate yaml file for YGO 2006. I hope it works.

I understand the confusion! It can be a tricky process to setup if you are new to it.

I am available on and off most of the day if the set up is too confusing. (as long as you have had a look at the Setup page first, as thats what I will be referenceing when I help).

Later today, I will also make a test server for the GT, so when you are set up you can make sure you can send and receive items.

    Team Aqua :kyogre:

I've gone with Old School Runescape and here's my YAML file in a zip. It's not on the official list but it looks pretty well supported. If it doesn't work for whatever reason let me know and I'll pick something different :)

Test server is up! I put your yamls in and you can connect and test if your game works in the next 24 hours.

JB, I had to edit your Yaml because it was crashing the server, had to change the max_combat_tasks to 16 as 20 was too high? Apparently.
