For people that choose Fennekin, what was your impression? Did you have to go with female because of it's feminine features? Or did you just roll with male? For those that got female, how tough was it? How many resets did you go through?

I played this game 2 days ago, I soft reset like 17 times the first time and soft reset 5 times the second time(I messed up on something big so I had to restart the game). Luckily both times I got decent nature the first female I got, so no need to reset again. How bad was it for you guys?

I'm going to ask a side question. There are both male and female playing this game. Does the developer expect the male and female player base to be 7:1? Should the ratio be changed to 1:1 for starters only? What are your thoughts on this subject?

Fennekins evolutions were a complete surprise to me until I played the game as I hadn't looked at any of the new pokemon.

I chose fennekin as my started as it was very cute and it happened to be female. I wasn't too fussed about the gender, as I didn't know how feminine the evolutions were going to be. Once my fennekin evolved, I dumped it into my PC. :/ I really don't like the design.

I don't think I've ever paid much attention to the gender of any pokemon. Now and again I breed for a certain gender, but that's because I'm also breeding for good IVs, nature etc and I've planned on a pretty/suitable name. :)

There's a reason behind the 7:1 male-to-female ratio for these starters, it's to make them hard to breed unless you have a Ditto or something. In fact, when I first played Ruby I ended up with a female Mudkip on the first try before I was even aware of the gender ratio mechanics.

As for the topic about Fennekin, I'm okay with my male Delphox. Mine was basically bred from an egg from Shauna's Fennekin that I got from a trade with her. I didn't really care about my starter's gender compared to most other Pokemon.

One thing that surprises me about Delphox is that people keep thinking it has feminine features, when the three starters are actually RPG archetypes: Delphox is a wizard with the wizard robe, not a dress (the stick being it's wand), Chesnaught being the Knight and Greninja obviously being the ninja

Shauna gifts the player a nicknamed Fennikin if they chose Froakie.
If Shauna's can be reset for gender/shiny... oh boy.

If memory serves me right, I don't think in-game traded Pokemon can be shiny but I do know they always have fixed natures and genders. Such as the Kalos starter obtained from Shauna always being male for example.

Like Hikari, I got a female starter on my first try on my first Pokemon game, Snivy in White, before I even knew about the gender ration, and then I got a female Oshawott in White 2, again on my first try.

All my other starters were males ever since, until I got X. I chose Froakie, who turned out to be female on the first try, but then I had to restart the game, and I decided to SR for a female because I wanted to give her the same nickname. It took 9 SRs before I got her again.

That was actually the only time I SRed for a female starter. IMO, they've been doing a pretty good job to make the starters as gender neutral as possible.

I too, feel like Fennekin has to be female and therefore always SR for a female one. Eventhough every so often I get it on my first try :)

I didn't choose Fennekin I chose Froakie but I thought it was interesting that when I picked Charmander it was a female first try :) Even though Charizard looks more like a male to me I was still happy cause getting a female starter anytime is quite thrilling lol :)

I didn't chose Fennkin but my husband did and got an female after 5 soft resets.

I didn't choose Fennekin but if I did I'd definitely be soft resetting for a female. I mean.. it doesn't look anything like a male and should be gender-locked but it's a starter so can't see that ever happening, haha. I SRed for a female Chespin and that took somewhere around 10-20 tries. Not bad, not bad!

I don't care enough to soft reset it. In fact, currently I do have a male Braixen by the name of Vern. Sure, it does feel a bit off, but I just like to think of it as a feminine male. Nothing wrong with that! Also, if I really was uncomfortable, I would've just given it a female name to give off the illusion that it actually was of the female gender.

I just waited and caught a female later from the Friend Safari. Worked for me.

Wow, I got a female and I reset to get a male....
I think the final evolution does not look feminine at all.

Oh, that's the reason? I honestly had no idea. :) But I still don't get why they would want to restrict the starters, I mean, they're supposed to be rare ingame but they're honestly not that hard to get because of GTS?

I actually soft resetted like 5-6 times and tried to get a female Fennekin just because I had a perfect name I wanted to use, but then I lost patience and thought of a nice name for a boy and just continued on, haha.

Braixen has feminine features, but both Fennekin and Delphox have very gender-neutral appearances.

With so many people insisting that Delphox can only be female, I actually told myself that if I somehow got a female on my first try, I would soft reset for a male! The only time I wanted a female Delphox was so I could have her with Magician and name her Trucy...
But I love my Delphox, Ross, and there's nothing wrong with feminine Pokémon that are male, and masculine Pokémon that are female!

Mine was male. It doesn't really matter that I did not get the female one, because, well… I'm just not a breeder, sadly. xD" Though, if I do go for a next run, I'll try to get the female starter only for the sake of it, haha.
