Any games like pokemon but more focus on combat?

I've been burnt out on pokemon for a while and I don't think I'll ever get into it again, but that aside I've been looking for a game with a similar concept, except instead of the focus being on catching everything, the meat of the gameplay is the battles.

I know of ni no kuni (wrath of the white witch) But other than that I haven't been able to find a game with a similar concept, rpg or otherwise. I also wanted to ask if you've been burnt out on pokemon, why that is, and if there was anything you did to "get back into it".

Hmm...I don't know of too many RPGs outside of Pokémon. I have played Earthbound and Digimon World DS, as both of these were cartoonish enough for me. I don't think I've really played any "traditional" RPGs because they seemed really complex and I didn't really want to get into them. Though for any non-Pokémon RPG, I have probably enjoyed Paper Mario (first one and second one) the most. Paper Mario was really fun for me because it had an action-command system that rewarded you if you could hit the buttons in the right order. There are also different characters that you can use and each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

As for being burnt out...yeah I think I've definitely been burnt out of playing Pokémon. After a while it's just the same old routine and it just feels very repetitive with no reward. Challenges are a good way to help you get back into Pokémon, as you can experience the game in a different way. I also think that playing other games (maybe really different ones) can help you get back into the game as well. Maybe try a spinoff or another Nintendo game. For me, I definitely think that playing other games helped. Playing Pokémon competitively also helped me keep up with Pokémon, as I have not played any Generation 6 games. I also think that trying to make my own game motivated me to play Pokémon, since I had to study from the official games.

So yeah, take a break. Hopefully you'll get back into it soon.

Since this isn't really a discussion about Pokemon itself, I'm going to move this over to our Video Games forum for you- hopefully some of the people over there will be able to help you out!

    MOVED.

If you haven't looked into the Dragon Quest Monsters series, I'd recommend checking it out! There's definitely some shared mechanics and elements that you'll find familiar.

If you're looking for something you can play on PC, there's this little monster taming RPG called Siralim on Steam, which is also reminiscent of Pokémon. Not the most aesthetic game though - even from someone who loves pixel art it's definitely lacking in its designs and graphics, if that matters to you, but for the gameplay's pretty solid. There's a free demo here, if you want to try it out.

I've also heard of Ark: Survival Evolved being loosely compared to Pokémon in that it involves capturing/taming creatures (dinosaurs, in this case), but there's also added elements of survival, like building a shelter, crafting, etc. Seems to be a lot of technical issues with the game though, looking at the reviews - the concept seems awesome but I haven't tried it for myself since it's a bit pricey for an early access game with known issues.

    World of Final Fantasy.

With Ni no Kuni (the 'wrath of the white witch' is a part of the title, it's not translation :P) already known, it's pretty hard to find Pokemon-like styled game...

I mean, it's obvious. Not many games would like to compete with Pokemon.

What kind of systems do you have? We can use that as a starting point!
