Okay, here goes. So, I'm finally getting my team for SoulSilver together and then, all of a sudden, I get a change of heart on which Fire type I want and so, I can't decide. It's either Cyndaquil or Growlithe. I really like Cyndaquil and I've never really raised Growlithe before. I never keep two of the same type on my team, so I need to decide on one. Halp, prease?

    Cyndaquil > Growlithe. =D'

Think about it this way - Cyndaquil is a one-of-a-kind.

    Growlithe you can get again.

Do you plan on fully evolving both? If so, Tybrosion, but this is still a tough choice. Though I never raised a Growlithe before, Arcanine is awesome, but me and Typhlosion had so many fun times. I absolutely say Cyntaquill all the way.

Yes, I do plan on evolving both fully and that's where I come to a standstill on who to choose because, in my eyes, Typhlosion and Arcanine are quite awesome and Caterpie is right, though. Cyndaquil is rare. I think I'll use Growlithe on my second playthrough since he's still Lv.1 at the moment.

Get both, Cyndaquil for your team and Growlithe for your PokeDex. Typhlosion has a better movepool. Also as Ninja Caterpie said it's one-of-a-kind. Plus, it's likely that Growlithe isn't gonna evolve till Kanto. Either way, I like both, I'd use both in my team if I were you, just like I did in Crystal, but I guess you want one.

Well, I already have a Fire Stone to have him evolve. I'm not even near Kanto. I'm right around Olivine/Goldenrod at the moment, so yeah. Lol.

Wait, you're playing SoulSilver? Growlithe isn't on SoulSilver, it's exclusive to HeartGold, SoulSilver has Vulpix. I have HeartGold and I have both, I love both of them and Fire is my favorite type. Sure it isn't the smartest thing to do, but I tend to use my favorites for my teams anyway since I'm not a competitive battler.

Arcanine OWNS!!! I've got a shiny one, they're pretty smexy lyk. Ninetails are ace too. But from the 2 you said, definately Growlithe.

Hmmmm.... Hard pick. I got a growlithe named after my trainer, but the cydnaquil was my starter... But growlithe you can just get over and over again, as the second post said. But cydnaquil is able to be obtained again by breeding (easiest if you have a ditto. Most starters are male at a 75% chance, while a female starter is at a 25% chance. Learned that on serebii.) GAAAAHHH! TOO HARD TO CHOOSE! XP

Ah, well, I traded for one and then had it breed with Ditto several time and so, now I have like three or four that belong to my trainer, Jedah. I really dislike the Intimidate ability and so, I had to breed to get a Growlithe with the Flash Fire ability.

Well, I say, raise Cydna first cuz he is your starter. Save Growly for a second run-through, but hold off on evolution until the little guy learns some good attacks.

Ah, ok. Yeah I dislike intimidate as well, lucky for me the Growlithe I caught on HG had flash fire. Then I'd go with Growlithe, or both, but I'm extremely biased as Growlithe is my favorite pokemon of all time. :p

Arcanine is better than Typhlosion but you don't want to evolve your Growlithe too early because of the moves but Growlithe is pretty horrible for in-game battles. It's up to you but using Growlithe for my in-game team seems more like a chore to me.

I'm just gonna go with a Cyndaquil that knows Extrasensory. :3 Thought that would be kinda unique to have. I'll just save Growlithe for a second playthrough.

If you're a competitive battler, choose Cyndaquil.
If not, then go with Growlithe.

I personally like Growlithe more, considering Typhlosion is kind of weird looking in my opinion.

I'm not a competitive battler. I'm not good at choosing move sets for that kind of thing, so I just avoid it completely. Maybe when I practice up some more, I'll think about giving it another shot but until then, I'll just stick to what I do now.
