    [PokeCommunity.com] 6/25 - COTD - Garchomp (DP: Mysterious Treasures)

    Thanks to Water Pokemon Master from www.pokebeach.com for the scan.

    This is a pre-release pic from DP: Mysterious Treasures

    Photo-realistic illustration...eww...I can't for the life of me why they keep doing those. Poor Garchomp looks like something out of Power Rangers. xP

    Anyway, it looks sort of lukewarm for a second stage. Rainbow Scale would have been exploitable by Rainbow Energy if it weren't for the fact that they blocked it and 70 damage for three isn't that glorious for a second stage. :\ Free retreat is cool and the HP is high enough, but somehow I expected something...more from the attacks. Plus - as mentioned - the art really sucks. 5/10, usable some weird rogue build that uses a lot of basic energy and pokémon that make do with any energy type, I guess.

    I've toyed with the idea of a Colorless/Rainbow deck, and I have to say, I would definitely use this thing. No resistance and HP is okay, but the attack power is a bit sub-par. Then again, with the right Energy it becomes 110 damage and a sweeper, especially against a mono-theme deck *coughGRASScough*...If only there was a non-Special Colorless Energy...heheheh.

    7/10

    By the way, do we have an actual release date for this set? Nevermind, I read the press release.

    The realistic approach is fine... but why is "the land shark" in a lush green forest thingie ><;

    Possibly 110 damage for 3 energy (anyone in the right mind for using this card will be using its pokebody, and not just for the direct 70), but then again it's really hard to use a variety of basic energy without rainbow... However, let's say that you at least wants fire to be one of them, as Infernape will be one of the obvious common deck you're up against anyway -__-;

    Rainbow Scale is really what turns this card into your average evolution into something worth putting in a deck. Experimenting with a colorless deck will be useful with a few Garchomps included, as you can then insert a wide arrange of basic energy in order to counter most types (I.E. water). This can easily turn Garchomp's Dragon Fang into a deadly 110 damage attack.

    Artwork isn't the best, nor is it's Poke-Body as no special energy can be attached. However Rainbow Scale can easily turn it into an awesome sweeper unless u can get a decent normal pokemon out on the field such as that EX Ruby and Sapphire Flygon (that Sand Guard can break any attack your opponent has >.>. Still, Air Slash is risky as even though Garchomp has a +30 weakness to colorless pokemon, Flygon's attack is another one that relies on luck to keep your energy cards; and you need to attack twice unless PlusPower were used). 8/10.

    I think that the new sets will change the dynamic enough to allow rainbow decks. Just think about a weak attack for 10 damage against something with a weakness to that of 30. That's 40 damage with weak attack and this thing will be king of the deck. 6/10 for now, but I think it will gain a few more points when the last ex sets get phased out.

    Looks great I would use it and a rare candy plus boost like first turn seventy damage that would be pretty cool. 8/10 for art work and 10/10 for the card.
