At the time, I really liked Gen 6 (which was very popular when it was new), but every time I heard news on Gen 7, it was like "Are we really doing this?" I hated all the Alola forms at the time, especially the ice-types because they melt under the extreme heat of Alola. If you're gonna bring Darwinian evolution to Pokemon, learn Darwinian Evolution. Some of them have grown on me over time. Mostly Alolan Marowak.
This was around the time I got bullied for some opinions on the games, so I kind of retreated from the fandom until Detective Pikachu the movie. The movie got me really excited, so I played through the Let's Go games once. I even jumped through hoops to find someone to help me evolve my Kadabra. I tried returning to Let's Go a couple times, but I always get bored with them.
Well anyway, at some point I decided to give USUM a go because I really liked some of the late game and post game content from there, like Legends Red and Blue and gambler Grimsley. I tried playing it on emulator, but I couldn't get into it. Alola brought the smallest number of new Pokemon into the series, so you'd think there's be a lot of quality over quantity, but no, I kind of ... don't like most of the Alola Dex. Then my English pen pal put the idea in my head that I shouldn't avoid having (at the time) new Pokemon on my team for the entire playthrough. Unfortunately, my ideal team of Alola mon is a ghost monotype team. It's just really hard for me to form a team. (It's also hard for me to form a team for Johto outside of Crystal where I can get Phanpy and Teddiursa and Skarmory on the same game without trading.)
I really want to enjoy Ultra Moon because it's a story where the player is the Assbag rival in parallel to Kanto games (outside of Let's Go), but I think that'd be more interesting in my head or in a fan fiction.
